FAQs

How long does it take content marketing to work?

In general, give blogging and social media marketing at least six months. Search algorithms need time to index and rank your blog posts and social media activity. And your social media audience needs time to find you and get to know you.

Email marketing can have a much faster response time. As long as your list is high-quality and you are sending valuable information and offers, you can enjoy new leads and even sales with your very first email newsletter.

New website content that is user-friendly and SEO-friendly can result in an immediate increase in website traffic.

Lead generation tools like white papers, presentations, and ebooks can also result in a quick uptick in new leads.

Remember: marketing is a long-term investment and a short-term expense. The longer you do it, the more (and bigger) payoff you’ll see.

How much does content marketing cost?

An age-old question that is often hidden on marketing agency websites! We broke down the starting point of our costs versus the industry standard here.

What kind of ROI can I expect?

Your return on investment varies by project, and each project builds on and supports the others.

Blogging and email marketing have the best ROI.

Blogging:

  • B2B companies that blog generate 67% more leads than those that don’t.
  • Featuring a blog as a key part of your website will give you a 434% better chance of being ranked highly on search engines.
  • Blogs are trusted sources of information and advice say 81% of US online consumers.
  • Company websites with active blogs have 97% more inbound links than websites without blogs.
Once you write 21-54 blog posts, blog traffic can increase by up to 30%.
  • Companies that blog get twice as much traffic from their email marketing than those who don’t blog.

Email marketing

  • For as long as I can remember, every $1 spent on email marketing results in around $42 in sales.

Website content that is written for both people and search engines is priceless. Kidding – sort of! It is your home base on the internet, and potential clients will absolutely check you out before getting in touch. It is in your best interest to have a stellar website that is easy to navigate and filled with (and consistently updated with) valuable information.

Social media marketing has notoriously iffy ROI. According to a 2022 Hubspot survey of marketers, the channels with the highest ROI are:

  • Instagram (25%)
  • Facebook (23%)
  • YouTube (14%)
  • TikTok (12%)
  • LinkedIn (11%)
  • Twitter/X (6%)

With that said, Monika gets leads and business from LinkedIn on a regular basis.

How much time do you need from me?

You will collaborate with us, but we keep calls and meetings to a minimum. Our goal is to capture all the information we need for any given project in a 60-minute discovery call.

For on-going projects, like blogging, we typically spend 30 minutes interviewing you and then you might need to spend 15-30 minutes reviewing and suggesting edits. Long-form content, like for a website or white paper, will require more of your time for review.

Why can’t I just DIY my marketing?

You can! However, our clients choose not to take on content marketing themselves for the same reason Monika outsourced bookkeeping and accounting. An expert can do it faster and better.

Can’t I just hire my niece?

Is your niece an experienced copywriter and marketing strategist? Then yes!

But we do caution against working with family. It can get tricky.

Can’t I just use ChatGPT?

ChatGPT and other generative AI tools can be helpful for idea generation and research.

If you try to use it to write a blog post or web page, you will get generic content that anyone could have written. It will not sound like you at all, and it may even be riddled with incorrect and duplicative information.

Therefore, you’ll still have to sit down and edit it so it’s authentic to your brand and your voice.

Maybe you’ll save some time, but you’ll still do way more work than you probably want to.

Who will I be working with?

Some agencies play tag-team with clients. We don’t. You will work directly with the same person.

What kind of turnaround time can I expect?

We work pretty quickly, but of course the project’s complexity has an impact on turnaround times.

A blog post or email newsletter can be done within a few days. Strategy, brand messaging, website content, and other long-form content can take 1-2 weeks.

How does your invoicing/billing process work?

We send out invoices around the first of the month for the previous month’s work. Payment is due upon receipt. You can pay via credit card, ACH, or check.

Why do you bill by the hour?

Most of our projects are billed by the hour for two reasons:

  • It can save our clients money! We estimate costs based on past experience, but if your project goes faster, we only bill for time used.
  • On the flip side, if the scope of work increases once the project begins, it ensures we won’t be working for free.

This doesn’t mean that we just bill and bill and bill some more, leaving you with an out-of-control invoice. If the estimated cost will go up (due to scope changes), we talk about it first.

Why should I work with you over a freelance copywriter or another marketing agency?

Here’s our list:

  • You will work with people who are really good at what they do. Believe it or not, it’s very hard to find good copywriters. And it’s even harder to find copywriters who are also marketing strategists.
  • You won’t receive generic content. Instead, we work with you to create content that captures your voice, expertise, and differentiators. In other words, it’s the content only you can create. We just bring it to life.
  • You won’t receive runaway invoices. All our clients have budgets – even big companies. We are very cognizant of that.
  • You will have fun working with us. In fact, Monika is known to make people laugh while telling them like it is. And because she’s the boss, she sets the tone.
  • You will be kept in the loop with proactive communication.
  • You will have an outside, objective set of eyes to provide ideas and recommendations.
  • Because we write everything based on your expertise and word choices, you will spend minimum time editing.
Do we have to commit to a project/spend minimum each month?

Nope! We are big believers in flexibility and doing what is best for our clients. If you need one blog post and one email per month to complement your other marketing activities, that’s what we’ll do.

If you need a full suite of content marketing support, like two blog posts, 12 social media posts, and one newsletter per month, plus a steady stream of lead generation projects, we can do that too.

And if you are just getting started with all things content marketing, we’ll probably start one project at a time so your head doesn’t explode. So perhaps we’d start with the blog and newsletter, and eventually increase frequency. Once we have a cadence down, we’d layer in social media marketing and other projects.

I have zero time for content marketing - can I just offload everything to you?

Yes, of course! We can create a strategy that works for your brand/business goals and put it into action. We will still collaborate via email and phone, but your content marketing time will be reduced to a couple of hours per month.
