10 Signs You Need to Outsource Digital Marketing

You know you need to outsource digital marketing when your head feels like it’s going to explode. Doesn’t matter whether you’re a small business owner or CMO. We are all constrained by one constant: time – or lack thereof.

A few years ago, I saw a study that showed the biggest challenges small business owners face. The top two were time-related:

  • Finding enough time to get everything done – 55%
  • Managing everything themselves – 44%

If you read those stats and found yourself nodding your head, keep reading.

10 signs you need to outsource digital marketing

1. I don’t know where to start

Listen, we are all experts in something. I would be lost if someone asked me to teach them negotiation skills or yoga. Heaven forbid they asked me for tax strategies or to paint the exterior of their house!

2. I have no time

You know what needs to be done, but anything marketing-related keeps getting pushed to the bottom of your to-do list. That’s understandable – you need to do client work so you get paid!

Unfortunately, if you keep ignoring marketing, you know what happens? The flow of new clients and projects slowly dries up, and then you’re up a creek without a paddle.

3. I don’t enjoy writing, tweeting, etc.

People love to tell me they hate writing, and I always reply, “Well, that’s what we’re here for!” If you don’t enjoy doing something, it probably also takes you longer to do it than an expert. Focus on what you love to do, and clear your plate of anything someone can do better and faster than you.

4. I can’t keep up with all the changes

Digital marketing is very hard to keep up with, even for those of us who do it for a living. But that’s our job – we keep up with the latest Facebook algorithm changes and updates to how people access information online so you don’t have to.

5. I am not generating quality leads

A full 37% of small business owners from that study don’t generate quality leads. That’s an issue. It indicates that your messages aren’t resonating and/or being seen by the right people. A digital marketing expert can definitely help redirect your efforts so they are effective.

6. My conversion rates stink

You’re getting leads – but then they’re ghosting on you? Or saying no thanks? It could be related to the quality of the leads – or it could be your offerings, pricing, approach, something else, or a combination of all the above. Either way, you need marketing expertise, stat.

7. People are not reading my emails or visiting my website

It’s pretty serious if people are not finding, engaging or contacting you. There could be numerous problems happening at once, from messaging to SEO to broken links. The outside perspective of a marketing ninja can be a lifesaver.

8. I can’t afford to hire someone in-house

It’s a lot cheaper to outsource than to hire, period. We have found that most of our clients don’t need full-time or even part-time marketing help, saving them a bundle in the process.

9. Every intern I’ve hired has been useless

Well, yeah. They’re interns – not experts! They need a mentor to guide and teach them. While I am sure your interns were perfectly capable of executing on a strategy, they need that strategy handed to them by someone who has been there/done that.

10. I can’t keep up with maintenance

Marketing is kind of like owning a home. It needs constant maintenance and attention, or one day, everything will fall apart.

Websites need to be maintained with new software updates so they don’t crash. Your “about” needs to be updated across all platforms when you add a new service. Someone needs to pay attention to your social media platforms in case you get a question or complaint.
